2019 iPhones to use new combination of antenna technology
As mentioned in the latest research note from Tianfeng International Securities’ analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will evade the current Liquid Crystal Polymer antenna technology, and shift towards a new combination of Modified Pi technology. According to Kuo, there are many reasons for Apple for making this change. For some, the company claimed to have “lesser bargaining power” against LCP material supplies, at the same time it is not too difficult to bring additional LCP supplies due to the “complex production process.” Moreover, Kuo mentions that LCP is more “brittle” than its any alternatives. It has issues with yield rate, thus, improving that yield rate has possibilities to lower the antenna’s performance. As for the Modified Pi antenna’s performance, Kuo said that “performance can be as good as LCP” then said thanks to the developed fluoride formula.
